🍅 Tomato – Currant Tomato (Heirloom)- Wild
(Solanum pimpinellifolium)
NZ Prohibited
One of the closest wild relatives of the modern tomato, Solanum pimpinellifolium, commonly known as the Currant Tomato, produces masses of tiny, jewel-like fruits bursting with flavour. Native to Peru and Ecuador, this heirloom species is prized for its vigorous growth, exceptional productivity, and intense sweet-tart taste.
The tiny fruits, often just 1–1.5 cm across, grow in large grape-like clusters and deliver a surprisingly rich tomato flavour despite their miniature size. Perfect for snacking straight from the vine, adding to salads, or garnishing dishes, these little tomatoes are often considered some of the most flavourful of all tomato varieties.
Highly vigorous and sprawling, the plants produce enormous numbers of small fruits throughout the season. Easy to grow and exceptionally rewarding, Currant Tomatoes are a favourite for gardeners looking for something unique and highly productive.
